February Volunteer of the Month
FEBRUARY’S VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH IS Bryon Amo!!
He was nominated because he is a “solid support of the winter grooming effort- from storage, keeping the fuel tank filled and actual grooming of the Hartley system Snowdog”
What trail system do you volunteer with... “I volunteer with the Hartley Crew. I am not able to make many of the Trail Work nights in the Summer months due to a busy work schedule, but I do help out quite a bit in the Winter with the grooming and maintenance of trail and machine. I get much pleasure in seeing all of the different trail users benefitting from the winter grooming. I would have never thought that the grooming would allow so many to enjoy the trail without damaging the trail for others. It is the best fat biking I have ever experienced, and it is right here!”
What’s your favorite place to bike… “My favorite trail is the one that I have not ridden yet, my wife Sheila and I like to explore new trails. Recently, Jackpot Trail near Tofte tops the list. We live on Hartley, and are very fortunate to be able to literally go out our back door and be on trails that are world class.”
What’s your favorite bike adventure story…”I was able to complete the Maah Daah Hey 150 with a group of friends in 2019. We rode the entire trail over 3 days and camped. Of the eight racers to start, we were the only four finishers. It is rugged, beautiful country and an incredible way to test one’s self, along with creating life-long bonds with friends.”
What’s your favorite memory volunteering with COGGS... “We bought a house near Hartley a couple of years ago. While riding on Fisherman trail, I came across a dude wielding a chainsaw and a smile. I stopped and was introduced to Eric Larson. Anyone who knows Eric knows his passion and also knows that it rubs off on you. Before I knew it, I was in deep (waist deep in the dark with a shovel and a smile!)”
Thank you Bryon for all your work on the Hartley trails! We appreciate you!
