Party Prep: Join the 2020 Duluth Traverse Gala Committee

So you are looking for a way to get involved with COGGS, your friendly local non-profit trail organization. But you don't have a TON of time to give. All the same, you appreciate riding our local trails and you are ready to give back in some way. 

 

And, you like to throw a good party.

 

Consider joining the 2020 Duluth Traverse Gala planning committee. A Gala Committee Member assists the Gala Chair and Gala Committee in putting on the COGGS’ annual fundraising event. Funds raised from this event make up the majority of the annual budget and are vital for the continued construction and maintenance of the Duluth Traverse Trail system. The role may involve recruiting, motivating and leading a committee of volunteers to plan the event, obtaining sponsorships, securing silent auction items and marketing to attendees. The event takes place in March of each year. Planning begins approximately 4-5 months prior to the Gala.

 

Committee Member roles include the following:

  • Venue Coordinator

  • After-party Coordinator

  • In-kind Donation Coordinator(s)

  • Online Bidding Platform (ClickBid) Administrator

  • Volunteer Coordinator

  • Registration Coordinator

  • Marketing Lead (reports to COGGS Marketing Director) 

  • Gala Committee Member

  • Event Volunteer

Potential Roles & Responsibility:

  • Chair / Lead a Gala Committee Subcommittee (Venue, After-party, In-kind Donations, Online Bidding, Volunteer, Registration and Marketing)

  • Participate in committee meetings.

  • Execute tasks essential to the event for each Gala Subcommittee

  • Actively solicit contacts that would help contribute to the Gala’s success.

  • Communicate regularly with the Gala Committee and event volunteers and monitor the progress of planning (using timeline) to ensure tasks are completed.

  • Hold committee members accountable for their tasks and the overall goals of the event.

  • Work with existing event implementation plans to define tasks and assign volunteers to roles, always looking to make improvements for the future Gala Chair and Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Community oriented

  • Self-motivated

  • Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • General understanding of the Mission, Vision and Values of COGGS and the annual Gala
