Gnar and Maintenance
Over this past spring and summer of 2018, a hearty and dedicated group of volunteers came out on Monday evenings to work on the Lester trails. The focus was split between adding gnar and trail maintenance.
Descending Amity East and !Rocks now provides many opportunities to get the wheels off of the ground. Hawk Ridge gained more drops, hucks, and kickers.
Maintenance and repairs allow the trails to dry out faster after rain and keeps keep them fun to ride. In the spring, the trail system was tuned up, cutting out slope and draining mud holes. Chronically muddy areas along the lower part of Amity West were hardened. The Lester volunteers also did the work that only gets noticed if it is not done, including weed whipping, leaf blowing, chain saw work, bridge repairs, and trimming back the corridor. Towards the end of the riding season the City of Duluth Parks Maintenance Department made substantial repairs to the upper section of the Lester River Trail.
Give a huge thanks to everyone who is making Lester Park such a fantastic place to ride! Thanks to all of our 2018 volunteer trail crew.
