COGGS board meeting 3/9/10 - Thirsty Pagan, Superior, WI - Meeting summary minutes

 

Board members present:

Adam Sundberg, Mick Dodds, Matthew Evingson, Andrea Grygo, Mike Miller, Bill Schwalbe

 

Meeting called to order by A Sundberg 7:58 pm

A Sundberg motion to approve February 9, 2010 minutes, second M Evingson, motion approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report

Checking balance $11,806.08, savings balance $2700.30.  Paid $550.0 for Minnesota Series Guide Book. Transfer of $1000 from checking to savings.

 

Agenda

  1. Bike swap at Continental.  Need volunteers for checking in bikes, mechanics, pricing, April 17-18th.  Proceeds benefit the United Way. 
  2. Minnesota series guide book; A Sundberg motion to pay $325 for COGGS advertising balance, second M Evingson, approved.
  3. Duluth Workforce Development Opportunity
    1. Program for kids 16-21, crew of 4-6 students working 25h/wk for 6-8 weeks, paid by City of Duluth. Darryl offered to be trail supervisor. COGGS needs to train potential supervisor; First Aid kit, water must be on site, supervisor ensures students sign in/out. IMBA training in May, work in June, July.  Gus will work with workforce to choose students. A Sundberg motion to hire a supervisor to work with Duluth Workforce, second M Evingson, approved.
    2. Discussion on payment of supervisor.  A Sundberg motion to pay supervisor $15/hour, second M Evingson, approved.
  4. National Trails Day options (June 5th):
    1. Piedmont – 500’ reroute, some bridges; possibility of getting in earlier with current weather
    2. SHT, City of Duluth, Forest Service big event at Hartley on trails day.  Opportunity to raise money (table in nature center), could also be doing trail work concurrently. 
    3. Highest priority trail work will be worked on that day (likely Lester)
  5. Newsletter
    1. Membership drive: highlights Specialized Globe raffle and $1000 match (if there are 50 memberships before June 1st)
    2. Calendar of events (alt date for GGG 10/2)
    3. Open/Closed signs on trails (should be out in April), trail riding etiquette

  1. Telemark Trail for weekend
    1. Bill will call and reserve lodge for the weekend
  2. COGGS Schwag
    1. Must cost < $10, merino wool 6” socks; black sock with white cog.  A Sundberg motion to approve, second M Evingson, approved.

8.      Ordering “Like the Trail” Signs

    1. 3” x 5” sign $5.50/sign for acrylic material. 
  1. Membership forms coming in
  2. COGGS.com domain needs to be renewed. A Sundberg motion to purchase for 5 years, A Grygo second, approved.
  3. How to motivate to build membership?
    1. Membership forms at trailheads
    2. Signs – like the trail, join COGGS
    3. Social, fun event with opportunities to meet others that mountain bike.  Weekly night rides. Riding workshops.
