The Mont-Du-Lac race course has been labeled as one of the top race courses in the Midwest, not only by the locals, but also by Minnesota pro riders as well. With a five mile loop that consists of leg burning climbs, screaming decents and Mont Du Lac's trademark rolling singletrack, this course will challenge every rider. Each lap will test the rider's power, endurance, mind and body to the max. This course offers something for everyone, from the first time rider to the seasoned veteran. The DirtSpanker will offer you a true test and a great time.
The Dirtspanker Classic is COGGS first Minnesota Mountain Bike Series Race of the 2011 Season. The races are held at the beautiful Mont du Lac Recreation Area and there are race categories for all ages and ability levels. The course will be the same as for the cross country mountain bike race. 10 am: Pre-riding for the Downhill Mountain bike Race 12 pm: Jolly Roger Downhill Mountain Bike Race 3 pm: Hill climb mountain bike competition. Entry fee is donation of any amount to COGGS, male and female winners get 10% of pot. The climb will go up the gravel road to the top of the hill at Mont du Lac. 5 pm: Speed trials competition. Entry fee is a donation of any amount to COGGS, male and female winners get 10% of pot. Speed trials consist of two racers competing against each other to go through a minimally difficult trials course including skinnies, tight turns and other features. Pre-rides will start at 10 am for the cross country race and will go throughout the day. The downhill course intersects this trail at a couple locations and there will be signs warning riders of this. After all the fun events of the day, there will be music going on the chalet Saturday night. If you want to hang at Mont du Lac all weekend, they have 17 rustic campsites and also camping available on the periphery of the parking lot. Cost is $5 per person per night and includes firewood. You must call Mont du Lac and sign up for camping. Their number is 218-626-3797. If you want to camp with fellow COGGers, let them know you'll pitch your tent at sites 5 and 6. There's room for 10-15 tents at this location and we have both spots.
It's going to be a fantastic event, so please bring your friends and come out to Mont du Lac for a great weekend.
